Last month, we had the pleasure of presenting at the Central Florida Wedding Association (CFWA) Annual Conference. Our topic of choice? Harnessing the power of short-form video content! As a wedding vendor, it’s so crucial to have a presence on social media in 2024, and video content is the best way to get eyes on your work. The Wedding Duo wouldn’t exist without social media, and it has truly impacted our lives in ways we never could have imagined. So we want to give everyone a peek behind the curtain at how you, too, can harness this incredible tool.
Short-form video content is videos on social media, usually under a minute long, that are easily digestible by audiences. Of course, there’s TikTok, but there are also Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, and Youtube Shorts. Since these videos are so short and come in a scrolling format, it’s important to be straight to the point and capture your audience’s attention quickly. But don’t worry! You don’t need to create different videos for each platform; instead, you can cross-post or recycle your content across platforms.
While we won’t go into the nitty-gritty of our CFWA presentation, there are a few key points that we touched on that every wedding vendor should know.
Who: The “who” of your content should be you – you’re the resident expert! Couples want to see your face, so try to show yourself as much as possible. Speaking to the camera helps build trust with your clients, and we know that’s a huge reason couples choose their wedding vendors.
What: Your “what” is your knowledge and skills. Focus on what you’re best at, and educate your couples so they can make informed decisions. Try to be ahead of the curve and answer your clients’ questions before they come up. While you don’t want to give away all of your secrets, it’s okay to give out a few.
Where: Where should you film? Since our brand is more laid-back, we film everywhere, from real weddings to our car. If your brand is a bit more polished, you can set up a nice backdrop in your office or studio.
When: When and how often to upload is up to you, but we recommend uploading as often as you’re comfortable with regularly maintaining. If that’s one video a week or five, just stick to a schedule. We recommend batching your recordings as much as possible and scheduling them to post later.
Why: You know as well as we do that social media is a necessity in today’s day and age. If you’re spending money on ads and not also focusing on your social media presence, you’re missing out! So many couples do their wedding research on social media, and it’s a great way to build that trust we mentioned earlier.
While social media may feel like the wild wild west, there are some rules you should follow when you start posting. After all, your posts reflect on your business, so we want to put ourselves in the best light. First, you should always tag other vendors who contributed. Not only is this polite, but it also means they’re more likely to share it, which means more eyes on your post! Second, don’t directly copy someone’s post. If you like their work, add your own spin to it and tag them, or even duet the video. Younger generations take online crediting very seriously, so do your due diligence when participating in trends.
We had so much fun presenting at CFWA, and it was great to meet wedding vendors in a market so different from our own. We got to chat with some vendors who dreaded creating video content and helped them learn that it can be an easy, fun way to connect with couples.
And, of course, we weren’t the only ones who presented! We sat in on other presentations at the conference, including those on marketing and sales, and learned so much. This industry is so full of people who want to share their knowledge with others, and even after 15+ years, we’re still learning.
As the wedding conference was held in Orlando, you knew we had to bring our kids along! We extended our stay and even included a few days in Disney World. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect mix of work and play in the gorgeous Florida sunshine.
While we love being on the ground at a wedding, we both have a passion for helping other wedding vendors in the industry. That’s why we created our Business Consulting Sessions. Whether you’re new to the industry or just need some help getting out of a business plateau, we can sit down to answer your questions and strategize a plan forward. With three different price points, there’s something for everyone. If you’re interested in a personalized session with us, head over to our vendors page for more details.
