How exciting, you have the honor to play a big role in your best friend’s wedding! Though having that honor comes with many important tasks, one being the maid of honor speech. As this can be an exciting time for some, it may be nerve-wracking for others when it comes to speaking to a large crowd. We are here to help you navigate a memorable maid of honor speech that will have you feeling confident, and the couple feeling loved!
First and foremost, try not to complicate it! Keep it simple by being true to yourself, telling a story, and showcasing your love and well wishes for the couple!
1.) Start with the bride – If you want to quickly thank everyone for being a part of the couple’s special day it can be a great ice breaker/speech opener. After, briefly share who you are to the bride and what she means to you.
2.) Tell a short story – As much as the wild, embarrassing story is funny… it may not be appropriate for this setting, so try keeping that one between you and the bride. In this story, you’ll want to showcase the character of the bride. Imagine the guests who may not know the bride as well as you do. Your story should be bringing out the absolute best in the bride.
3.) Humor – Everyone loves a good laugh, that’s no secret. Try sprinkling in a few jokes here and there, but don’t cross the line (aka do not bring up past relationships!). Inside jokes may also be hilarious, but when you’re speaking to the crowd it may go right over their heads. Ex: if the bride is the shortest one in the room try throwing in that you’ll make the speech “short and sweet… sort of like the bride”!
4.) End with the couple – This is your time to highlight the bride and groom as a couple. You’ll want to share about the bond and connection the couple have with one another. Express the love and well wishes you have for them and their future together, and ask the crowd to raise a glass for a toast. CHEERS!
