Now that you’ve chosen to book a DJ for your wedding, the next step is figuring out how to actually do that. What do you ask them? Are there certain things you should look out for? How do you choose the right wedding DJ for you?
Well, these questions actually come up a lot because in case you haven’t noticed, there are a LOT of choices out there.

Just like you would do with anyone you’re looking at working with or hiring, you would check out their website, their Google reviews, their Facebook reviews, and maybe even reach out to other couples who you know have worked with that particular vendor.
Checking a wedding DJ’s website should be one of the first things you do.
It can tell you a lot about how professional they are, more about them, their experience, and why they think they would be a good fit for your wedding. You’ll also be able to see the feedback they’ve received from other people which is always reassuring and can also save you from hiring someone who may let you down!

Communication is a big one. Anyone who is taking part in one of the biggest days of your life needs to be reliable, and you want to know you can trust them.
Make sure to pay attention to how quickly they respond to your emails/messages. It’s definitely not recommended to message one vendor/company on multiple different platforms and spam them with messages because no one can keep up with this, right?
The best thing to do is to send an inquiry via email or their inquiry form on their website and wait for their reply.
A lot of vendors have automatic replies set up so that you get a confirmation email once you’ve sent the inquiry in, reassuring you that it hasn’t got lost in the cloud and that they’ve got it in their inbox! The average response time is 2-3 working days, but if you’ve messaged on a Friday, allow a little slack.
Remember, you may work Mon-Fri, but for wedding vendors, the busiest time of their week is the weekend. They will most likely be working Friday AND Saturday, and might be taking Sunday to recover from the late nights!
If your wedding DJ is also going to be acting as your MC, it’s really important that you mesh well. If you book a DJ that is constantly on the MIC talking through all your songs and singing along/doing things you definitely DON’T want at your wedding, it’s going to be a nightmare.
Make sure to either meet in person or virtually via Zoom, Facetime, WhatsApp, etc. This allows you to get a feel for their personality and make sure that you’re on the same page.
Whilst you’re on the call, make sure to ask whether that specific DJ will be the person who is working your wedding, as some DJ companies have multiple DJs. If it’s going to be someone else, just ask to meet with them too and it shouldn’t be a problem.

The wedding community is a friendly one, and vendors are more than willing to refer each other to couples when asked. Hiring a DJ for your wedding can become a swift process indeed if you’ve already found other vendors who you can ask for referrals.
Just send a quick email to anyone you’ve already booked for your wedding and let them know that you’re looking for a wedding DJ. Let them know the kind of person you’re looking for and ask if they know anyone who would be suitable! Not only does this take the task of searching off your list, but it also gives you even more reassurance because they’re being recommended to you.
